Kimberly is a Teenager trapped in a 72-year-old elderly woman, and a teen trying to live every day as its the last. Following having a talk with a friend, And receiving the reply “she’s amazing—she’s like this little old woman trapped in a baby’s body”, David Lindsay-Abaire thought "what a great idea for a Theate".
Kimberly Akimbo is a performance that opened Off-Broadway at the Manhattan Theatre Club NYC on February 4, 2003. Starred by Victoria Clark, and Directed by Jessica Stone, often celebrated for his potential for uniting humor and harsh reality.
The tale begins in 1999 in suburban New Jersey, a teen called Kimberly was born with a disorder that made her age four and a half times than she actually is. Struggling with a terrifying reality to experience mortality and teen years at the same time.
Unlike the rare clinical condition, she is facing, Kimberly is rarely the center of attention in her life, in fact, you will see her compassionately consumed by her family’s recklessly, which puts her in various emotional burdens including psychological strain, financial struggle, social isolation, and the need for belongingness. Despite this, Kimberly demonstrates great resilience, empathy, determination, courage, and managing to keep her high spirits.
