Hamilton at Benedum Center Pittsburgh

Production creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, fresh off his success from his last Broadway play, In the Heights, conceptualized Hamilton for a number of years before it premiered in the Richard Rodgers Theatre in 2015. It was in this first run that he also played the title role. The entirety of the production, including its brilliant cast and breathtaking score received extremely positive reviews from both critics and the audiences alike.

The Musical, as most know, is a historical story created about one of the Countries Founding Fathers, but Hamilton takes a new and modern approach, as seen in the music genres chosen and especially in its diverse casting. Also, the 2016 Tony Awards, where Hamilton was awarded 11 out of 16 nominations, is a display of its success. the Musical’s debut cast consisted of the likes of Philippa Soo, Leslie Odom Jr., and Jonathan Groff. Individually, the cast was already filled with both notable nominees and previous award winners, but their wide range and strong performances taken collectively brought the show to a completely new level. The production team, just as incredibly talented, won Tony Awards for the production. Thomas Kail for Best Direction, Andy Blankenbuehler for Best Choreography, Alex Lacamoire for Best Orchestrations, Howell Binkley for Best Lighting Design of a Musical, Paul Tazewell for Best Costume Design of a Musical, and of course Lin-Manuel Miranda himself for Best Original Score and Best Book of a Musical, all topped the 2016 Tony Awards. Above all and unsurprisingly, Hamilton also won Best Musical for 2016. The current cast and production crew in each new entertainment venue where Hamilton is performed brings the same passion and inspiration in their performances, with overwhelming positive reviews posted consistently.

The production’s global rise to fame led to opening many doors all over the world for the fans to experience the Musical. It has continued for the past 10 years to perform not just in America, but also on London’s West End and in a number of locations across Asia. The Musical’s limited season will be making its way to Pittsburgh throughout September (and on Friday 27th September 2024) at Benedum Center, selling out at yet another world-class stage with the finest facilities and sound engineering that could surpass even Broadway and West End theaters.
