Hamilton at Benedum Center Pittsburgh

Show writer Lin-Manuel Miranda, fresh off his success from his recent Broadway play, In the Heights, conceptualized Hamilton for a few years before it opened in the Richard Rodgers Theatre in 2015. It was in this opening that he also acted the lead role. The entire show, including its amazing cast and magnificent score received extremely positive feedback from both critics and new fans alike.

Hamilton, as most know, is a historical story based off one of the Nations Founding Fathers, but Hamilton takes a fresh and modern approach, as seen in the music styles chosen and particularly in its diverse casting. Also, the 2016 Tony Awards, where the production took home 11 out of 16 nominations, is a display of its success. the show’s first cast consisted of the actors, Philippa Soo, Leslie Odom Jr., and Jonathan Groff. Individually, the cast was already filled with both famous nominees and awardees, but their wide range and memorable performances collected together brought the production to a whole new level. The production team, just as extremely talented, collected Tony Awards for the production. Thomas Kail for Best Direction, Andy Blankenbuehler for Best Choreography, Alex Lacamoire for Best Orchestrations, Howell Binkley for Best Lighting Design of a Musical, Paul Tazewell for Best Costume Design of a Musical, and of course Lin-Manuel Miranda himself for Best Original Score and Best Book of a Musical, all topped the 2016 Tony Awards. Above all and unsurprisingly, the show also grabbed Best Musical for 2016. The touring cast and production crew in each new entertainment venue where the Musical is on tour brings the same grit and inspiration in their performances, with glowing reviews posted consistently.

Hamilton’s global rise to fame led to opening many doors all over the world for the fans to experience the production. It has continued for the past decade to perform not just in America, but also on London’s West End and in various locations across Asia. The show’s limited season will be heading to Pittsburgh throughout September (and on Thursday 26th September 2024) at Benedum Center, selling out at one more world-class stage with the favorite facilities and sound engineering that rivals even Broadway and West End theaters.
