Hamilton at Benedum Center Pittsburgh

Making its first appearance in in 2015 and performing for almost a decade, Hamilton took Broadway by storm bringing a innovative approach. From Ron Chernow’s book about Alexander Hamilton, it tells the life of Alexander Hamilton’s early years and rise to one of the Founding Fathers of the USA. A unique story that is both founded in truth and political, Hamilton is still to this day lauded as fearless in its storytelling that has influenced politics, culture, and our youth.

It was created by American composer and lyricist Lin-Manuel Miranda, famous for his numerous accomplishments in film, Broadway and more, also creating the score and lyrics for previous Broadway play called "In the Heights", another Tony award-winning production. Miranda is also responsible for the music and lyrics in several notable musical films such as Moana. This hit Broadway musical, featuring a diverse cast, has showtunes in a style that combines new genres like hip hop, jazz, R&B and more, which has made Hamilton all the more innovative and exciting by bringing these genres to the Broadway stage. Showtunes such as “Satisfied”, “Wait For It”, and “You’ll Be Back”, have been considered as Broadways best memorable songs from the production since its Broadway debut. Lin-Manuel Miranda has said that his music inspiration for Hamilton came from top rap and hip hop rappers of USA, he wanted to unite the two different genres together in an unprecedented manner! The score of Hamilton is praised hugely by Pennsylvania critics alike, as compared to other Broadway shows that have been staged, Hamilton continues to be more fast-paced and lively than others.

Hamilton has garnered a record-breaking 11 Tony Awards and 16 Tony nominations, Olivier Awards, Grammy Awards, a Pulitzer Prize, and even a special citation from the Kennedy Center Honors. So far, Hamilton has achieved global acclaim as it continues its limited runs all over the world, including the continents of Europe and Asia.

Hamilton is now available this fall in Benedum Center, the premier theater for the arts in Pittsburgh, where previous shows have proved to be successful. Tickets for the Thursday 19th September 2024 showing are limited as Hamilton will only be running for a short time in Benedum Center during September.
