The storyline

The story focuses on the events of September 11, 2001, and how the terrorist attacks unexpectedly reached Gander, Newfoundland. 7,000 passengers from 38 flights - the “plane people” - were suddenly grounded in the quiet town far from home and loved ones as that mornings terrorist attacks cleared the skies.

Come From Away is the creation of Irene Sankoff and David Hein, the husband-and-wife duo behind the book that went on become a musical adaptation and production score. As part of their research, the storytellers visited Gander on the 10th anniversary of 9/11 to meet with locals and even some "plane people" who had returned to rekindle the friendships established in that distressing time.
